Effective EMC Rectification for Display Screens: Pass EN55032 with Targeted Filter Solutions

In the fast-paced world of display technology, ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance is not just a regulatory requirement but a cornerstone of product reliability and market competitiveness. For display manufacturers, passing the EN55032 standard—Europe’s stringent benchmark for electromagnetic interference (EMI)—is non-negotiable, especially when it comes to two critical test items: Radiated Emission (RE) and Conducted Emission (CE). Recently, we successfully completed EMC rectification for a display product, overcoming radiated and conducted noise challenges with precision-selected filter components, setting a practical example for the industry.

The display product, designed for industrial and consumer applications, initially faced difficulties in meeting the EN55032 standard during EMC testing. Specifically, the radiated emission in the 30MHz-1GHz frequency range and conducted emission in the 150kHz-30MHz range exceeded the standard limits, which would have hindered its entry into the European market and undermined its operational stability in complex electromagnetic environments. Our engineering team quickly launched a targeted rectification project, focusing on identifying interference sources and deploying effective filtering solutions to address the core issues.

How to test the power filter’s function?

Power filters are essential components in electronic devices, with the main function of filtering the input power signal to remove noise and other interference, providing a stable and smooth direct current or alternating current voltage to ensure the normal operation of electronic devices. Power filters are widely used in electronic products, especially in high-end electronic products that require signal stability, reliability, and safety.

In addition to the main functions and roles mentioned above, power filters can also serve the following purposes:

Filter out high-frequency noise in the input power, reduce interference to the system, and minimize electromagnetic radiation.
Prevent transient changes in the power supply circuit to avoid impacting the system.
Avoid sudden surges in the power line to enhance system reliability and stability.
VIIP PCB Mixed-Signal Interference Solutions: Discussion on Power Filter and Layout Optimization Strategies

Power filters can to some extent address device interference issues, but the specific effectiveness depends on factors such as the characteristics of the interference source, filter design, and application environment. Below, the VIA power filter editor will first explain the definition and causes of electromagnetic interference, and then discuss in detail the strategies for suppressing electromagnetic interference, including power filters, coupling of external interference, switch tubes, transformers, diodes, energy storage inductors, as well as PCB layout and routing.
